Singular & Plural nouns

การทำคำนาม singular ให้เป็น plural มีหลักดังต่อไปนี้


1.คำนามโดยทั่วไปให้เติม s ที่ท้ายคำนามนั้นๆ เช่น

singular -- plural

girl - ------girls

boy-------- boys

page -----pages

month--- months


2. นาม singular ที่ลงท้ายด้วย s, x, z, ch , sh ให้เติม es เช่น

singular ---plural

bus--------- buses

class------ classes

quiz------- quizzes

box------- boxes

church ----churches


3. นาม singular ที่ลงท้ายด้วย y และหน้า y เป็นพยัญชนะ ให้เปลี่ยน y เป็น I แล้ว เติม es เช่น

singular------- plural

lady ------------laies

city -----------cities

duty----------- duties

แต่ถ้าหน้า y เป็น สระ ให้เติม s เช่น day = days , monkey = monkeys etc


4.นาม singular ที่ลงท้ายด้วย o และหน้า o เป็น พยัญชนะ ให้เติม es เช่น

singular --------plural

hero---------- heroes

potato-------- potatoes

echo ----------echoes

tomato --------tomatoes

ยกเว้น piano = pianos, soprano = sopranos, conerto = concertos, dynamo = dynomos. etc.

แต่ถ้าหน้า o เป็น สระให้เติม s เช่น

folio = folios, radio = radios etc.


5.นาม singular ที่ลงท้ายด้วย f หรือ fe ให้ เปลี่ยน f / fe เป็น v แล้ว เติม es เช่น

leaf ---------leaves


6. นามบางคำ ทำให้เป็น plural โดยเปลี่ยนรูป เช่น

singular---- plural

man ---------men

woman -----woman

child.........childrrn

ox -------oxen

tooth ------teeth

goose----- geese

mouse-----mice

louse ------ lice

7. คำนามบางตัวใช้รูปเดียวทั้ง singular & plural เช่น
swine, sheep, deer, cod, trout, salmon, pair, dozen, score, gross, hundred, thousand.
I bought three dozen oranges. Some peple reach the age of three score and ten.

8. คำนามบางคำใช้เฉพาะในรูป plural เช่น
1. เครื่องมือที่มี สองส่วน เช่น bellows, scissors , tongs, pincers, spectacles.

2.ชื่อของเสื้อผ้า ของใช้ เช่น trousers, drawers, breeches.

3.ชื่อโรค เช่น measles, mumps.

4. ชื่อ กีฬา เช่น Billiards, draughts.

9. คำนามบางตัวมีรูปเป็น plural แต่ใช้ เป็น singular เช่น
mathematics, physics, mechanics, politics, news, innings,

10. คำนามที่หมายถึงกลุ่ม หมู่ มีรูปเป็น singular แต่ใช้เป็น plural เช่น
poultry, cattle, vermin, people, gentry.
